Russian Sex Workers Continue the Fight to Register their Organisation

Serebryanaya Roza (Silver Rose) has been fighting for the rights of sex workers in Russia since 2006.  Today, the group has a presence in 10 regions across Russia, representing the interests of a large part of the estimated 3 million sex workers in the country.  They operate a hotline for sex workers and provide legal aid to sex workers in cases of violence and harassment.

This resource is a note by NSWP members Veshya Anyay Mukti Parishad (VAMP) and SANGRAM. It summarizes the Report of the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women in India with regards to her observations made in relation to sex worker rights in India. It highlights that the Special Rapporteur called on the Indian Government to review the problematic ITPA (Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act) legislation which criminalizes women in sex work and to take measures to protect the human rights of sex workers.

Flash Mob for the Rights of Sex Workers in Portugal

 
On the night of April 30th to May 1st, the Rede sobre Trabalho Sexual (Portuguese Sex Work
Network) will organise - in partnership with several activists for the rights of Sex Workers – a Flash
Mob for the Rights of Sex Workers (SW) in Portugal.
 
“Sex Work is Work” is the motto of the initiative, a slogan that was already adopted in 2012 during
the first Portuguese consciousness raising campaign about the need to recognise and dignify sex work in Portugal.

NSWP meber, Women in Power Initiative (WOPI), the first Community Based Organisation in Nigeria led a march in Lagos marking the 14th International Sex Workers’ Rights Day. The programme mobilised over 50 sex workers, civil society organisations working with the female sex worker community and the media.
