Community Mobilisation and Empowerment of Female Sex Workers in Karnataka State, South India: Associations with HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infection Risk


A series of behavioural-biological surveys in 2008 and 2011 in four districts of Karnataka found that mobilising female sex workers is central to effective HIV prevention programming. Defining community mobilisation exposure as low, medium or high, the study revealed female sex workers with high exposure to community mobilisation are:

How are sex workers involved in your organisation?: 
Young Professional Development Society Nepal is a young organisation working in different fields and sectors coordinating with the Ministry of Health and Population and related organisations. Basically we focus on youth generation transformation and professionalism development and research and conduct programmes on youth issues, challenge youth policy development and revision. Our organisation has been working in youth programmes and programmes targeting social problems, youth sex, youth drug transmission and other.

Religious Fundamentalist Militants Storm Baghdad Brothel Killing 29 Sex Workers

NSWP stands in solidarity with sex workers the world over and mourn the deaths of 31 people in Baghdad, Iraq on 12 July 2014. Religious militia are suspected to behind the massacre in a brothel in the suburb of Zayouna which is known to be a red-light district in the capital city of Iraq. Among the dead, were 29 women and two men who were shot at close range in what can only be described as an execution of all those present in the brothel. The gunmen left a message on the front door warning people that ‘This is the fate of any prostitution’.

Over 1000 Bangladeshi sex workers evicted from their homes and workspaces with 24 hours notice

By Monday 14 July,2014, almost 1000 Bangladeshi sex workers from the Tangail Kandapara brothel district were evicted from their homes and work spaces as the demolition of the brothel complex, which spanned over 3 acres of land, was undertaken at the behest of an “anti-social activities committee” who threatened to set the complex on fire.
