Several US states still use condom possession as evidence
An article in The Atlantic shows how several US states are still using possession of condoms as evidence for arresting people 'suspected of engaging in prostitution.'
The article highlights evidence from New York, San Francisco and North Carolina. It also showed how many sex workers are afraid of carrying multiple condoms for fear of arrest and how city police in New York have destroyed or confiscated thousands of condoms found in the possession of supsected sex workers.
Furthermore, a local bill still being taken forward by New York State Senator Velmanette Montgomery would bar the use of condoms as evidence of prostitution in criminal cases - for more information on this bill see the New York Times. Other states would need to follow New York's lead if it is successful.
