Canada's Liberal Party votes to support the decriminalisation of sex work

Last weekend in Halifax at their biannual national convention, the Liberal Party voted yes to a resolution for consensual sex work decriminalisation. The resolution was presented by the party’s youth caucus, the Young Liberals of Canada, and is part of several resolutions that push for a more progressive Liberal Party. The Liberal Party are currently the largest party in Canadian government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Trudeau.

Efforts to resist the closing of strip clubs in the US are ongoing. Recent police raids have prompted a spotlight on New Orleans, Louisiana (NOLA) in recent months, as NOLA-based sex workers speak out against “tough on crime” politics affecting their right to work safely.

Краткое пособие для секс-работников по сопротивлению внедрению "скандинавской" модели

Краткое пособие составлено с опорой на разработанный НСВП набор инструментов по "шведской модели" и посвящено анализу ущерба, причиненного секс-работникам в странах, где была введена "скандинавская" модель. В его основе – опыт членов НСВП, сведения о котором собирались  в ходе совещания с членами сети при помощи анализа документов, проведения глубинных интервью и тематических исследований в отдельных стран.  Цель пособия – помочь членам НСВП и защитникам прав секс-работников активно выступать против предложений ввести "скандинавский" подход в их странах.

Guía Práctica para Personas que Ejercen el Trabajo Sexual para Combatir la Introducción del Modelo Nórdico

Esta Guía Práctica es parte de la ya herramienta existente de la NSWP sobre el “Modelo Sueco”, y da un repaso a los daños causados a las personas que ejercen el trabajo sexual en los países donde se ha introducido el Modelo Sueco. Está hecha a partir de las experiencias de los miembros de la NSWP, usando documentos, entrevistas en profundidad y estudios de casos a través de procesos de consultas.

Guide futé des travailleurSEs du sexe : Contester la mise en œuvre du modèle nordique

Ce Guide futé s’inspire de l’outil de plaidoyer de NSWP sur le « modèle suédois », et s’intéresse aux préjudices que le modèle nordique a pu causer aux travailleurSEs du sexe dans les pays où il a été introduit. Il se base sur les expériences des membres de NSWP, sur leurs contributions, sur des entretiens approfondis et sur des études de cas rassemblées lors d’un processus de consultation. L’objectif de ce Guide futé est de servir d’outil aux adhérents de NSWP et aux défenseurs des droits des travailleurSEs du sexe pour contester activement les projets d’introduction du modèle nordique dans leur pays.

New legislation poses threat to sex workers in the U.S.

On 27th February, the House of Representatives passed a new Bill affecting sex workers in the United States: H.R. 1865 [Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act of 2017], known as 'FOSTA'. This bill makes it a federal crime for online platform providers to 'facilitate sex trafficking', also criminalising the users of these sites.

Smart Sex Workers' Guide: Challenging the introduction of the Nordic Model

This Smart Guide builds on NSWP’s existing toolkit on the 'Nordic model’, and looks at the harms caused to sex workers in countries where the Nordic Model has been introduced. It draws on the experiences of NSWP members, using submissions, in-depth interviews and case studies gathered through a consultation process.

Changes to HIV and sex work laws in Malawi

A Member of Parliament in Malawi, Frank Mwenifumbo, has urged the government to legalise sex work and ensure there are different support systems around it. The MP claimed a lot of people in the country rely on the sex trade. “We see young ladies and young men standing along our streets for this purpose. Why can we not legalise it? We are in denial and yet it is there in the open that we have people depending on commercial sex” he said.
