Sex workers collectives and organisations in Pune and Sangli came together on 6th April asked women's rights groups to support them in stopping violence against sex workers. Delegates also discussed police treatment of sex workers during raids on brothels and anti-trafficking initiatives.
Meena Seshu from Sangram said "A major concern is the fact that the police often resort to physical highhandedness while dealing with the women," adding, "Very often during such raids, sex workers are humiliated, beaten up and verbally abused." There were calls for sex workers to be involved and consulted about rescue operations.
