What are the two main challenges that the sex workers you work with face:
In DRC, the laws and policies on sex work are harsh in spite of the fact that the number of sex workers is increasing in the country. Sex workers face many problems including: 1. problems within the bureaucratic system, they are targeted by the police and the military, they are victims of ransoms and extortion, 2. They are victims of stigmatisation and discrimination within the community, and of gang rapes and violence.
Describe other areas of your work:
Our organisation advocates for the reform of local laws and policies, for the decriminalisation of sex work, sensitise the community on the right to choose one’s profession, and challenge the stigmatisation and discrimination of sex workers.
