Infographic: NSWP Consensus Statement on Sex Work, Human Rights, and the Law

The Consensus Statement details eight fundamental rights that sex worker-led groups from around the world identify as crucial targets for their activism and advocacy. Following a global consultation with members, the NSWP Consensus Statement reaffirms NSWP ’s global advocacy platform for sex work, human rights and the law. 

The Consensus Statement infographic is a new tool for sex workers' advocacy worldwide. It was designed and created by Smo Sienkiewicz.

Históricamente, los discursos y leyes en contra de la trata de personas se han enfocado en la “prostitución” con el fin de controlar las migraciones, la movilidad y la sexualidad de las mujeres. Actualmente, la confusión entre el trabajo sexual y la trata de personas sigue siendo una de las formas más comunes de desinformación en cuanto al trabajo sexual.

Ложные слухи о секс-работе на питательной почве устаревших стереотипов, мифов и морального осуждения распускались веками и продолжают влиять на политику и общественное мнение и в наши дни. La mésinformation sur le travail du sexe se répand depuis des siècles, alimentée par des stéréotypes, des mythes et des jugements moraux qui encore aujourd’hui continuent d’influencer les politiques et l’opinion publique. Que ces mensonges soient propagés intentionnellement ou partagées involontairement, la diffusion d’informations inexactes ou fausses sur le travail du sexe a de graves conséquences. 

Briefing Note: Misinformation on Sex Work

Misinformation on sex work has flourished for centuries, fuelled by age-old stereotypes, myths, and moral judgments which continue to shape policies and public opinions. Whether falsehoods are disseminated to deliberately deceive, or are shared unknowingly, the spread of inaccurate and misleading information on sex work has significant consequences.

NHRC, India issue COVID-19 advisory calling on the recognition of sex workers as informal workers

The National Human Rights Commission, India have issued an advisory recognising sex workers as informal workers. The 11-page advisory titled 'Human Rights Advisory on rights of Women in Context of COVID-19' lists recommendations for sex workers under the women at work section.

CAfOC-TS issue statement on human rights abuses against sex workers in Central and West Africa

Coalition Afrique de l’Ouest et du Centre pour le travail du sexe (CAfOC-TS) have issued a statement reporting on the human rights abuses and violence experienced by sex workers during the COVID-19 pandemic in francophone African countries.

CAfOC-TS – which is made up of organisations including UMANDE, And Soppeku, Blety, AFAZ - Association Femme Amazone, Alcondoms Cameroun, YERELON+, and HODSAS – work to address the problems faced by French speaking sex workers in Central and West Africa.
