ASWA offers sex workers scholarships to attend ICASA

To ensure that the voices and presence of sex workers are heard and felt during the 17thInternational Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA) the African Sex Worker Alliance (ASWA), launched a scholarship program that supported 20 sex workers from different parts of the continent to attend the 17th ICASA Conference (in Cape Town, South Africa, 7th -11th December).

The ASWA scholarships were open to sex workers based in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, DRC, Cameroon, Mali, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Ethiopia, Nigeria and South Africa. Each scholarship covered travel expenses, accommodation, meals and disabled student allowances.

The scholarships were possible through United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Global Network of Sex Workers Projects (NSWP).
