Who do you work with?:
Pacific Rainbow$ Advocacy Network work with adult female, transgender and male sex workers that are currently operating and also work with other stakeholders and the non sex worker supporters.
How are sex workers involved in your organisation?:
Sex workers hold the majority seats within the board and the management collective and all programs are implemented and led by sex workers.
Which of NSWP priority areas does your organisation work on?:
Oppose the criminalisation and other legal oppression of sex work and support its recognition as work
Critique the trafficking paradigm that conflates representations of sex work, migration, and mobility
Advocate for universal access to health services, including primary health care, HIV and sexual and reproductive health services
Speak out about violence against sex workers, including violence from police, institutions, clients, and intimate partners, while challenging the myth that sex work is inherently gender-based violence
Oppose human rights abuses, including coercive programming, mandatory testing, raids and forced rehabilitation
Challenge stigma and discrimination against sex workers, their families and partners, and others involved in sex work
Advocate for the economic empowerment and social inclusion of sex workers as sex workers
What are the two main challenges that the sex workers you work with face:
Abuse and violence from police and the military which often leads to human rights’ violations and often sex workers are afraid to report this to the police due to the legal framework regarding sex work in Fiji. On that note sex workers are also afraid to report abuse from clients. Social exclusion of sex workers: especially when accessing health services and other social services.
Describe other areas of your work:
Pacific Rainbow$ Advocacy Network is a young sex worker led program for sex workers. Using the National Youth Council of Fiji platform to raise awareness and address issues concerning young key affected populations. We are also planning to work with stakeholders in setting up social security schemes with sex workers. We are also planning to lobby for legislation reform on health and safety issues.
