International AIDS Conference Pre-Meeting and Networking Zone

The Africa Sex Workers Alliance (ASWA), Sisonke, and the Global Network of Sex Work Projects (NSWP) is delighted to invite sex workers from around the world who will be attending the International AIDS Conference (AIDS2016) in Durban, South Africa from 18-22 July 2016 to join us at a sex worker pre-meeting on Sunday 17th July 2016.

The pre-meeting will provide sex workers with an opportunity to meet one another, review the conference programme and identify advocacy strategies. The pre-meeting is free, and lunch will be provided, but participants must register to attend as there are a limited number of places available, and details of the venue will only be sent after your registration has been confirmed by the NSWP secretariat.

The pre-meeting will take place from 10:00 to 16:00 in a venue near the conference centre. Please register by emailing your name, the organisation, city and country you come from and your arrival date in Durban to

DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION IS FRIDAY 8 JULY 2016, but places will be given on a first come first served basis.

ASWA, Sisonke, NSWP are also organising the Sex Worker Networking Zone in the Global Village, where we are creating space for sex worker organisations from across the world to present their work - either through sending a proposal for a session that you would like to run in the Sex Worker Networking Zone or bringing promotional materials to be displayed on the walls or handed out to conference participants. Space may have to be shared on a rotational basis depending on how many organisations bring resources to display in the Sex Worker Networking Zone.

Proposals for sessions should:

  • Not exceed 1 hour;
  • Should set out the intended audience of your session;
  • Provide an outline of the content of the session;
  • and finally, include your preferred day and time for your session.
