DMSC members are meeting with candidates from all parties who are standing in the West Bengal Assembly election to demand equal rights for sex workers.
Bharati Dey from DMSC said “Sex workers will back whoever supports the cause of sex workers.”
DMSC has a membership of over 65,000 people and hopes to use this electoral strength as leverage to elicit support for their list of demands from candidates. Their demands include sex workers being allowed to register as workers with the Labour department and the repeal of the 'Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956'.
