Who do you work with?

The east Africa Sex Workers Alliance (EASWA) is a non-governmental organisation led by Sex Workers organisations, networks and groups in East Africa. It was started in October 2018 to serve female, make and transgender sex workers in East Africa to amplify their voice in advocating for their rights, social-economic welfare and capacity building among sex workers organisations' members and safety and security for East Africa sex workers in general.

How are sex workers involved in your organisation?

EASWA is sex worker led organisation therefore the whole issues involve the organisation Networks and group in East Africa matters is done by the members themselves.

Which of NSWP priority areas does your organisation work on?
Oppose the criminalisation and other legal oppression of sex work and support its recognition as work
Advocate for universal access to health services, including primary health care, HIV and sexual and reproductive health services
Oppose human rights abuses, including coercive programming, mandatory testing, raids and forced rehabilitation
Challenge stigma and discrimination against sex workers, their families and partners, and others involved in sex work
Advocate for the economic empowerment and social inclusion of sex workers as sex workers
What are the two main challenges that the sex workers you work with face

- Police harassment ad arrest – lack of legal assistance
- Inadequate friendly health facilities to serve sex worker communities including the STIs medication

Describe other areas of your work

- As the umbrella organisation our main activities are research, documentation, capacity building and empopwerment for organisation and national network led sex workers in East Africa to its member organisatins and other formal groups
- Advocacy work at national level
